Here is an email I wrote today to the amazing team at Rapunzel Creative — the marketing agency I launched in 2011. I also wrote this poem honoring them and our work together.
“As the summer winds down and we move into the changes of fall and the quiet of winter, so has Rapunzel Creative slowed and our little agency and creative home is ready to rest. Looking back on our time together, I created this poem for you. I hope it conveys my feelings and experiences of working with all of you.”
Sometimes people arrive in your life
and you think you know the reason—
a project, a role, a purpose that seems clear.
But time has its own way of unfolding,
and you realize
there are so many more reasons
why your paths were meant to cross.
Friendships deepen.
Ideas take shape and soar.
We create, we laugh, we stumble, we grow—
becoming something like family.
Over the years I’ve worked with you,
you have changed me.
You have taught me.
You have made me braver, more patient,
more creative.
You’ve shown me how to lead,
and how not to.
Lessons so many I cannot list them,
yet each one lives in me now,
shaping who I am.
I love you all as if we share the same blood.
And as this company winds down,
I hope the threads we’ve woven together
hold fast—
that you’ll stay in touch,
reach out,
ask for my thoughts,
and know I’ll ask for yours.
This journey with you
has been one of the best of my life.
For that,
I hold the deepest gratitude.
