Here we go again… June 29, 2024

Good morning everyone and happy weekend.

My chemo journey starts this Tuesday with a treatment called Gem Carbo.

I will be having a total of six treatments, one treatment every three weeks.

I feel as though this cancer came back so quickly — in a flash and with my recent cough and feeling asthmatic I’m truly hoping it hasn’t traveled back to the lung. Of course that’s fear talking and not reality. I will be having a CT chest next Friday and an MRI brain scan today.

I was very impressed with my orientation at Cancer Care in Brewer, Maine. After checking in at reception, the loveliest woman walked up to me and introduced herself as the stylist that works there. She told me that she was going to help me get fitted for two free wigs, which she will style. This is a free service they provide.

So over the next hour, I met Paula, Young’s “Kendall” and “Kenzie” and “Billie….” I even got to try on an all gray wig, which terrified me. I do not look good with gray hair!!!!

And on this journey, I am going to be doing what’s called cold capping. This prevents some hair loss and keeps the follicles healthy. Also free here. (3k value.)

Now another tough step, letting go of my business. (Biz colleagues keep this confidential, please.) It was a welcome to distraction to work through my last chemo and I will do so again, but I have decided to wind down my business and close it out between September and December of this year. While I feel sad, I have understood and accepted that this cancer isn’t curable, according to the medical community. I plan on doing as much as I can with as much free time as I can get even while I’m going through the chemo treatments, allowing rest as needed, of course.

My wonderful MDI Sails ⛵️community has opened their arms telling me to come to classes when I can make it, so I’m really hoping to be back on the boats throughout the summer.

My friend Jude and I will be venturing to Monhegan Island in August to celebrate our birthdays.

If you are on this platform, and out of the area, please come and visit. I have plenty of room and expect to have more free time than ever.

Since the new Caring Bridge planner is down, I will now start a support planner as post.

Thank you for being here.
